The Election Commission is one of the three institutions whose independence is critical for the functioning of democracy. Discuss the evolution of office of the Election Commission of India (ECI) since its inception.

(2) Ensures implementation of ECRC by providing Seals CA, for Delhi election. Evolution of ECI (1) It started as a single member body in 1951. (2) In 1989, 61st constitution made it multimember as age for voting decreased from 21 to 18. (3) During 1990s - under CEC TN Seshan, ECI took up normative role & EPIC introduced Limitations on expenditure & Model Code of Conduct. (4) 2000's & Recent Innovation & techniology, handled fairness & use of EVMs, UV Pass applications → eVIGIL. but- ECI is under criticism for alleged influence of executive, raising question on independence.
