Main Body
Causes of landslides:
Seismic activity → Himalayas are geologically active → frequent earthquakes, causing the de-stabilisation of steep slopes, leading to movement of rock fragments.
Thus, Himalayan landslides are primarily caused by natural factors.
(B) Western Ghats
The Western Ghats are geologically stable, erosion masses and geologically stable, thus most landslide were result of anthropogenic disturbance.
Therefore, landslides need to be effectively mitigated enough slope stabilisation by afforestation, geo-textiles, boulders, bigyunct efforts on western plateau etc.
